[eng] How do I get into International Model United Nations (IMUN)?

Before continuing about how I can join this IMUN, maybe many of you don’t fully understand what International Model United Nations is. Alright, it will explain one by one. What is International Model United Nations? International MUN is an international organization that has been recognized by several UN specialized agencies such as UNDP, UNESCO, IOM, and also by the Australian Embassies in Vietnam and Thailand. International MUN has a main vision and mission to unite youth from all elements of society in various parts of the world to be able to learn as well as share ideas and information through a simulation conference of the international UN session both offline and online. In MUN, participants will be representatives of a country to discuss international issues following the actual procedures and rules of the UN session through discussion, diplomacy, and negotiation methods in order to obtain a resolution that can solve the problems that are in accordance with the topic or issue.

The reason why I decided to join IMUN was that I wanted to try new experiences and of course, learn about things I didn’t understand before. I’ve been interested in following this IMUN since some time ago. But at that time I still doubted whether I could take part in this event because I was not a student in international law. When I tried to register at that time I had problems, there was a referral code that I needed to enter and I don’t know where I can get the referral code. Finally, after reading and understanding more about IMUN itself, I know how to join.

Please note, there are several programs within IMUN, namely; IMUN Campus Ambassador Internship, IMUN Online Conference, and also the IMUN Membership Program. Also need to know, who can join this IMUN? As stated in its vision and mission “to unite youth from all elements of society in various parts of the world to be able to learn as well as share ideas and information through a simulation conference of the UN session”, IMUN is looking for young people who are positive, enthusiastic, have an entrepreneurial spirit, fast to learn, oriented towards results, persistent, and active. It may be students, students, or recent graduates with ideally a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. What are the benefits of following IMUN? The benefits of participating in IMUN include; can practice research, diplomacy, and negotiation skills, practice public speaking skills, increase self-confidence, improve foreign language skills, practicing problem-solving skills, add relationships and friends from various parts of the world, add new insights on international issues and much more that can be obtained.

Regarding some of the previously mentioned IMUN programs, they will be briefly explained here. The first is IMUN Online Conference. The IMUN Online Conference is designed to provide the true IMUN experience to all participants from their own homes. Previously, in the last 3 years, International MUN has successfully held offline MUN in 5 different countries, namely in Thailand, Vietnam, Egypt, China, and Malaysia. However, after the global pandemic, the IMUN offline conference had to be stopped. However, without reducing the enthusiasm of the youth, IMUN continues to hold online conferences so that everyone can continue to participate in this activity safely from their homes. Participants will be tested based on in-depth knowledge, research insights, and diplomatic skills to solve global problems on various UN committees. The topics cover a variety of world problems ranging from economic recession, international security, to problems arising from the pandemic.

Second, IMUN Campus Ambassador Internship. IMUN Campus Ambassador Internship is a 5-week marketing-based internship program that serves as a forum for all interns to learn how to organize, diplomacy, and at the same time can provide experiences and all interesting things about the simulation of the UN session (MUN). The IMUN Campus Ambassador Internship program aims to build future youth leaders. During the program, the IMUN team will work directly with interns to learn various business development, leadership, marketing, and sales skills while representing MUN International as an IMUN Campus Ambassador. Third, there is the IMUN Membership Program. IMUN Membership is an exclusive program that allows participants to take part in 4 IMUN Online Conferences, Free IMUN training, Expert sessions, QnA sessions, career counseling, and others.

With the help of an IMUN Campus Ambassador, I managed to register for the IMUN Online Conference 59.0. A Campus Ambassador will help you register step-by-step. Why go through Campus Ambassador? Because the one who has the referral code for registration is a Campus Ambassador. He will also help take care of the registrant’s payment. After successfully registering and the payment has been confirmed, we will get a confirmation email and committee preference to choose which committee and country we will represent. The committees at IMUN include; SOCHUM(social, humanitarian and cultural committee), SPECPOL(special political and decolonization committee), UNESCO(united nations educational scientific and cultural organization), UNICEF(united nations international children’s emergency fund), WFP(world food program), WHO(world health organization), UNODC(united nations office on drugs and crime), UN WOMEN, ILO(international labor organization), UNHRC(united nations human rights council), UNDP(united nations development program ). The committees and topics at the IMUN Online Conference are different every week. So, what we choose follows what is available in the committee preference option. Because this is a simulation of the UN session conference, the activities carried out are following the procedures and rules of the actual UN session.

IMUN Online Conference lasts for 2 days. The conference takes place from 12. 30 PM — 06.30 PM IST. The first day started with an opening which was opened by the chairman of each committee. The chairman will explain the rundown of the event for 2 days and the various rules that must be obeyed, this session is a training session. After the training session is complete, it is continued with the committee session. A committee session is a session where all participants representing each country will be given time to discuss and present their research results on the topics discussed according to their respective countries. The discussions carried out included problems regarding the topics discussed as well as solutions that could be sought to resolve existing problems. The committee session continues until the second day. Where later at the end of the session, the solutions that have been discussed during the conference will be written in the form of a draft resolution which will be collected as a result of the conference.

At the end of the conference, the chairman will announce the best delegates who will receive awards. All IMUN Online Conference participants will get a certificate as conference participants. And the best delegates will also get a certificate as the best delegate. What you get by participating in the IMUN Online Conference is not only a certificate that has been recognized by the United Nations and the Australian Embassy, ​​but also all the experiences that can only be gained by participating in this event.
